ABOUT
Kathe Frake is originally a native Southern Californian who has been living in New York for the last 18 years. She was always interested in drawing and has worked in oils, watercolors, and acrylics. She is mostly a self-taught artist, taking a few classes throughout the years.
Looking to fo fill up new time as her last moved out, she walked into a "Reflections" painting group at the Arts on the Lake in Kent Lakes, NY and met Alex Shundi. It was he who encouraged her to try new avenues and experimentation in painting. With his encouragement, Ms. Frake discovered "Abstract" and developed a whole new approach and look to her work. There is no set design when she start out but as the painting begins to "speak," there comes a form of communication and just goes with it.
Ms. Frake gets her inspiration by using bold colors and strong line movement and then goes with the flow of the painting as it evolves from her imagination. This way of painting has allowed her a free from of expression, exploration and great satisfaction. Using colors and composition in such a way, she is able to fill up the cavanses with fun energy and movement. She paints to music and lets that also be a source of dreamy improvisation.
